Until recently, I'm been a newbie to the brand Avene. I've always spotted them down the aisles of Boots whilst on a scout for new skincare, but I've never even really heard too much about them or their products. I have heard that they're great for more sensitive skintypes, so probably being more oily than anything I've picked other things. I was kindly sent the Soothing Hydrating Serum from Escentual to try out which is a great starter to the brand.
I'm really big on serums, although usually it's breakout busting ones I go for. I've been using some hydrating products recently, particularly the Antipodies Manuka Honey mask, and it's produced some seriously incredible results, so I was really looking forward to using more similar. The Avene serum comes in a sleek frosted glass bottle, with a handy pump for easy application. On first impressions it feels very light, quite gel like but very soothing and calming. It actually feels quite cold straight from the bottle which works really well if I have any sore, angry blemishes.
The serum contains glycerine so fantastic for really nourishing the skin, it works by attracting all the water from the lower layers of the skin so really does hydrate well. It can also help to protect the outer barrier of the skin, working really well on dry or dehydrated types. Personally, I don't think you can see too much of a difference using hydrating products, other than your skin looking brighter and plumper, but this is definitely part of the results I've found.
This probably isn't something I'd use as my night serum, but in the morning it feels so wonderful gliding over the skin, and sinks in really quickly so doesn't interfere with make-up. It really does feel so soothing and eases my cystic acne breakouts, so it's worked it's way into a must-have part of my morning skincare routine. I've got my eye on the moisture mask next, and even better it's currently on 1/3 off at Escentual! Have you tried anything from Avene?
